BUFFALO, NEW YORK – HEALTHeLINK, the Western New York clinical information exchange, has launched an advertising campaign to create greater awareness in the community about the benefits of allowing physicians to access patients’ health information electronically. The campaign encourages health care consumers to provide consent that will allow physicians to obtain important health information through a secure electronic network.
“Every major hospital in the region as well as hundreds of doctors, imaging centers, and laboratories have already made the effort to develop and use this important technology. Now we need healthcare consumers to understand why they should say yes when they are asked to provide consent,” said Daniel E. Porreca, executive director of HEALTHeLINK. “In emergency situations this information will save lives. In non-emergent situations, it will save money through efficiencies and convenience.”
Using the theme of “your body of information,” advertisements are being aired on various radio stations and feature Erie County Commissioner of Health Anthony Billittier, MD. The campaign also includes billboard advertising as well as an online campaign, including advertisements on Facebook.com. The three-month campaign was created by the Buffalo-based advertising agency Crowley Webb and Associates. “We are learning that the more people know about the benefits of the information exchange, the more likely they are to consent to having their health information shared,” Porreca continued.
