FIRST INDEPENDENT RADIOLOGY PRACTICE BEGINS PROVIDING DATA FEEDS TO HEALTHeLINK

Up to 300,000 radiology reports from Windsong Radiology anticipated to be shared through exchange annually

BUFFALO, NEW YORK – HEALTHeLINK today announced that Windsong Radiology Group has begun submitting patient records and reports electronically through Western New York’s clinical information exchange. It is anticipated that up to 300,000 radiology reports from Windsong Radiology will be shared through the clinical information exchange on an annual basis adding to the millions of reports already being shared among health providers.
The independent radiology practice, with locations in Williamsville, Amherst, Hamburg, Lancaster and West Seneca, joins a growing list of providers that are dramatically increasing the amount of healthcare data being made available to physicians through HEALTHeLINK.
“Windsong is the first independent radiology practice to join with radiology departments of our region’s major hospitals in supplying radiology information through our region’s clinical information exchange,” said Daniel E. Porreca, executive director, HEALTHeLINK. “Radiology reports are a critical diagnostic tool and having them available to physicians electronically will help improve the quality of patient care and reduce duplicative testing resulting in less radiation exposure to patients.”
Among the hospitals in the region whose radiology departments are already sharing information through HEALTHeLINK include Catholic Health System, Erie County Medical Center, Kaleida Health, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Mount St. Mary’s Hospital & Health Center, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and WCA Hospital in Jamestown.
“We continue to reach out to other radiology practices in Western New York as the potential volume of radiology reports that can be shared among health care providers is important for the overall vision of the clinical information exchange for our region,” continued Porreca.
“Windsong Radiology Group was among the first imaging centers to provide access of our PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) through a web portal to our referring physicians,” according to Dr. Anthony Foti, Radiologist, Windsong Radiology Group. “HEALTHeLINK will now expand the breadth of medical professionals that will have the ability to utilize and access our patient’s imaging studies, which has the potential to provide better care while reducing overall healthcare costs.”
Individual patient radiology reports as well as all other patient health information may only be accessed through HEALTHeLINK by physicians and approved medical staffs who are involved in the patient’s care if the patient signs a consent form. More than 130,000 Western New Yorkers have already given their healthcare providers better access to the information they need by signing consent forms.
